Beginners bike session - Saturday 10am - followed by beginners group ride in t'countryside

Hi all, I'm planning on running a session on Saturday morning which will focus on some of the basics of cycling, including:

  • basic bike fit/safety
  • changing an inner tube
  • safe group riding.
The idea is to help people get to grips with some of the basics needed for club rides out in the countryside where it's pretty and there are sheep and things (not on the roads, in the fields you ride past).

The first part of the session will start at Brockwell Park (meet at the lido) and last approximately 45 minutes.

Stuff to bring:  Your bike, helmet, appropriate clothing, drink.

Afterwards if people wish we can go out on a an uncoached group ride (40km-50km) at an easy pace, with a cake stop thrown in for good measure.  If you just want to turn up for the ride, please be at the lido car park by 10:45am at the latest.  Expect to be back around 2:30-3pm.

NB This will be an uncoached group ride, at a very sociable pace.  If you've been worried about the pace of other club rides, but still want to get out of London for a few hours, this one is for you

If you're coming on the ride please make sure you bring the usual bits and pieces: helmet, spares/tools, waterproof/spare layers if needed, drink, snacks, spare inner tubes ID, mobile phone, money/bank card, oyster etc

It's also worth reading the document below about club riding.

Any questions/suggestions please post below - I'm happy to adapt the session to the needs of those attending.

Cheers,

Luke

Baaaa baaaa sheep...

Thanks Luke this sounds ideal for beginners - but unfortunately I'm out of London for for a week then otherwise I would been v keen (next one!)

But I am doing a 25 mile bike race for charity (www.libda.co.uk/ride) on 10 June if any one else fancy it.  There's an elite category for speedsters... and its £15 to enter. I know its not that easy from London but there's a train station in Liphook with trains from CJ.   Let me know if anyone is interested (its my first cyle race!)

Really want to do this but I have a work function 1-5pm.  Can we come part way on the cycle?

who has work functions on a Saturday?!

Sunday, and it's a 'we're leaving our current office, so lets have a party on Jubilee day cos we've got a great view'  :(

Well as the bike session's on Saturday surely not a problem?

Can you ask Len to 'event' this?

Ooooooooh it's on Saturday, I thought it was Sunday...

So Parkrun then ride... yes, why not!

I'm up for this! Sociable pace and cake stop is definitely my style...

Sounds perfect for me. I'm in. Thanks for arranging.
I'll see you Saturday and get you for saying "Bad Hooms".
