Congratulations to Deborah at Age Group World Championships

I would like to extend a huge congratulations to Deborah who today raced in the sprint at the ITU world championships in Beijing after qualifying earlier in the year at Dorney. 6 weeks ago Deborah fell off her bike and broke her arm, however, with amazing grit and determination did not give up, and still managed to get out there, and in her words below, had a fantastic race in her 50-55 age group.

Deborah you are an inspiration to us all.

Here are her words...

Now its all over I feel I had a fantastic time at the Triathlon AG World Championships.

The reality was somewhat different. Its was pouring with rain this morning and dark when we arrived at the course. Everywhere was flooded. Pools of water all over transition. The tents for registration were awash. Luckily no grass so no mud. I was scared and cold wondering why I was doing this. I arrived at 5.30am as transition closed for set up at 6.15am. My wave start was not until 7.30am so lots of waiting in the cold.  Then in our thin tri-suits we were ushered to the waters edge. No wet suits allowed. I put my toe in and it was like a warm bath and things started to look up.

I did not notice the rain during the race and it made the run refreshing. I was cautious on the bike as wet and slippery but it had some great up hills where I overtook loads of people.  I felt awesome racing for GB so exciting with people cheering and shouting for GB.  I feel it was worth all the hard training.

I came 7th in the World for my age group. I was delighted given the broken arm 6 weeks ago. I came 4th on the bike, 6th on the run and 20th in the swim. So I know where I have to focus for next year. I have decided not to seek to qualify to go to NZ in 2012 as too far for a race but in 2013 its London so I may try again.

Thank you for all your encouragement and support.

Deborah

Amazing! Well done Deborah!
Absolutely legendary performance!! I was uber impressed that you still went following your fall, placing that high following a nasty injury is nuts. Well done :-)
