Triathlon is mostly about the cycle, I will be  working in London for 15 months and at a loss as to how to build my cycle stamina and skills,  I will be returning to Cumbria every week end and get one long 40-70 miler in at the week end, but I am looking for at least 2 further sessions a week and time trials when the evenings allow.

My place of work will be London Bridge any existing sessions or strategies you can advise me of.  I have a warm weather training at the end of March, which will be 6 continuous days of cycling in the order of 70 plus miles a day plus 1.5 hours swim  hence the immediate need to build both swim and cycle to get the most from the sessions.

If you're after a hard bike session - come along to the Wednesday spins.

We do also go out at the weekends - if you're around that is. Failing that - Richmond park is good in the mornings pre-work when the light gets a bit better.

Ever thought of investing in a turbo? There are some great sessions here: http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/triathlete/triathlon-bike/turbo-train...

Additionally

If you are sufficiently hard core to want to go out on the roads the local cycling club have chain gangs that go out on Wed eve - beginners at Regents Park and faster group from Elmers End. Check the website of Dulwich Paragon for details.

Triathlon is not only about cycling and its a bit easier to run in the cold and dark. Even.easier on a floodlit track on a Thursday eve ;-) and you'd be doing good base training

You could get more out of your ride to work by loading down your panniers to make it harder but to be honest there is always a lot of stop starting in London.

You could try some hill repeats - up college road to Crystal.Palace is a good local one.

Get the time trial directory for south east time trials in the season.

Finally Wed spin is good but you have to book early

Excellant I will checkout the site,

Lee

Thank you. I will certainly look at the wednesday spinning, I do have a turbo but it is a logistical nightware while still in a hotel.

I would say Wednesday spin sessions and Turbos until it is lighter!!!  Cycling to work could be some kind of training as well, if you have somewhere safe to put your bike.

Thank you Wednesday Spin sounds good, I will also try and catch the social on Monday to get my bearings.- Depending on what day one throws at me.

Used to work in the London Bridge area - its not the greatest location in terms of cycling commute or lunchtime running. In the end I joined a local gym (normally I hate gyms, but this ones actually okay loads of cardio equipment, nothing fancy)
