Just a reminder that this Sunday's bike session is aimed specifically - although not exclusively - at those new to riding road bikes.
We will be meeting as usual at 9am sharp outside the Brockwell Lido. If you have a bike it would of course be ideal if you brought it with you but it is not compulsory to come on the ride afterwards.
The first part of the session lasting 30-40 minutes will cover what you need to be aware of to ensure your bike is safe to ride, fits you and is well maintained. There will be a certain amount of talking from me but it is also a Q & A session and I'll do my best to answer any questions you may have.
Then for those of you up for it, we are going to ride to Richmond Park along a fairly quiet route. This should take no more than 50 minutes to get there. Then one loop of the park (which is around 7miles) as a group at a very steady pace. Followed by coffee and a (small) piece of cake at the cafe before returning to the Lido for 12.30 - in time to watch the Lads take on Boro in the 4th round of the Cup.
Hopefully the rain will hold off!

So i can come to the bike ride without bringing a bike?
Peter, to make this a bit clearer, Tony will be running down the do's and don'ts of bike riding, talking about bike fit, handling, maintenence etc before he takes those with a bike over to Richmond Park.
We aren't in a position to loan people bikes - as we don't have any as a club!
Feel free to bring your own if you have one, even if you don't fancy the ride as you'll learn much more if your bike is with you. If you don't have one, you can still come along and learn a few tricks of the trade.
I do have a bike but its a mountain bike and a very old one at that, i'm thinking of getting a road bike later in the year. Do you think it's worth riding it my old mountain bike or should i wait until i get a new one?
I don't have a bike rack so may not be able to come with it but i'll try fitting it into the car.
It's entirely what you feel comfortable with. For Richmond Park, mountain bikes and hybrids are fine as you go at your own pace. If you were to come out into the countryside with us, I'd advise a road bike.
Its definitely work coming along though. And a ride on your mountain bike is better than a morning on the sofa...
I saw a tweet from the Brownlee brothers, apparently its just got cold enough for even them to wear thermals while riding.. it must be cold!

Nice ride in the park today - cheers Tony.
I peeled off on the way back, because I thought Helen had taken the wrong route. By the time I found her, at the junction of Trinity Road (underpass) and East Hill , she seemed to know where she was going. I saw the newbie Windrush peloton pass by.
Hope eveyone got back ok.
Back in one piece.
Thanks for taking us out Tony and for the helpful tips, looking forward to the next newbie suitable cycling excursion!
