This week we'll be testing our winter legs out on the hills of Kent.
The route is approximately 85km, of which the first 50km are undulating, then on the way back we climbo Toys Hill, Hogtrough Hill (perpendicular to Brasted Hill), Hang Grove Hill, and finally Anerley Hill.
I've done this ride on my own in about 3 hours on the dot, but we will not be pushing on hell for leather. The aim is to take the first half at a steady but reasonable pace, and then climb the hills on the back half at our own pace, all regrouping at the top of the climbs.
We'll be leaving at 9am from the Lido, and make sure you have all the usuals, water, gels, puncture repair stuff/tubes/pumps/lyre leavers etc. I'd expect to be back for 12:30/1pm.
At the moment, accuweather is saying the below, so minimal excuses please!

Permalink Reply by Sarah Birks on December 1, 2011 at 12:19 there's no mention of a cake stop?? Might see you there otherwise I'll be doing a slightly shorter route with tea/cake stop ;)
Permalink Reply by Lee Randle on December 1, 2011 at 12:40 I think the Lido cafe do tea and cake....
Permalink Reply by Oliver Jones on December 1, 2011 at 13:01 Sunday rides? doh - sorry, Sunday is long run day for me now. See you for the next Saturday adventure with the boys though. I'll definitely be more Jens-ian
Permalink Reply by Stephanie Niven on December 1, 2011 at 14:07 Sarah, I am with you. Surely short with a cake stop is the only way to cycle in December? See you at 9am?
Permalink Reply by Sarah Birks on December 1, 2011 at 14:10 Perfect, see you then x
Just do the 55-60km Kent route?
Permalink Reply by Lee Randle on December 1, 2011 at 14:19 We go out quite far on that route as it is so there'll be a bunch of us for a good hour at least.
Permalink Reply by Stephanie Niven on December 1, 2011 at 14:23 Sounds like an excellent plan! xx
Permalink Reply by Oliver Jones on December 1, 2011 at 16:42 Cake is THE essential component of winter bike rides. My favourite recommendations include the 'Lemon Zest' at the Cafe Nero in Westerham, the 'Date Slice' at the Four Elms Tea and Coffee Shop, the Carrot Cake at 'Cake' in Cudham and the Coffee and Orange at our very own lido cafe....I feel an app coming on?
I've also recently started getting hot dogs at the top of Box Hill :-) Controversial I know but the old Tour riders used to grab pork chops from the local restaurants and put them in their bento boxes. Word of warning though - too much ketchup doesn't go well with isotonic drinks
Permalink Reply by Sarah Birks on December 1, 2011 at 16:58 Shame you don't all live near my work - the test kitchen is rolling out cake after cake this week, another 6 have just been unveiled... I'm so lucky (sic) I can't eat wheat and dairy.
Ps. Cake is the essential component of winter rides
Permalink Reply by Stephanie Niven on December 1, 2011 at 17:14 Do you think mid-ride fish and chips would be pushing it though?? I was surprisingly tempted last time I was on the bike...
