If any Windrushers fancy a late season middle distance race, I am thinking of heading down to Weymouth for the middle distance race on Sunday Sept 23 organised by Bustinskins. The 1.9km swim is in the sheltered harbour off the national sailing school, undulating 90km bike course around Weymouth and south Dorset, 21km run around Portland Bill on the coastal path. Get in touch if you want to enter and need a lift.

no one else so far. I think lots of people are doing London as their end of season race, Laura and Charles are off to somewhere in the mid West of the US to do their half iM. I want to do Weymouth because it is scenic and challenging (hilly bike and run). Weather is pot luck of course. I have entered now and will probably try to camp locally; why pay for a B&B when you have to get up at 5am and make your own breakfast!. Let me know if you decide to go for it.

thanks for posting back to me.
im keen to do this but it is a step up for me and is billed as a toughie on the website!
I am going to see how I do in the next week training wise - having swum 50 lengths this morning I am only really concerned about the run.....
But I like the sound of it and I have a VW van so camping is a good option.
Can I get a few tips from you this week about training?
Cheers,
Jonathan.

sorry to be slow to get back to you, I have been in France for a few days.
I think this is one of those races where provided you have reasonable bike fitness, the swim and run look after themselves. The bike course is quite demanding, rolling but with at least three steep hills, but none very long. The main thing is not to overcook it by treating it like a time trial on a flat course. The run has lots of ups and downs too, but my attitude to hills on a run like this is to walk for the steep bits!
I would try to get in a long hilly bike ride this weekend if you can eg Surrey hills or ride down to Brighton. Maybe a run round Richmond Park or Hampstead Heath for long, undulating, off-road run practice. Once you are within two weeks of the race you should be tapering and hard training sessions won't really be of benefit anyway.
I will be going to the Windrush pool and spin training this evening (Thursday Sept 6) as I am away this weekend and won't be able to train; maybe see you there?
